My 20 ft pontoon with an 85' 70hp johnson needs a prop bad. The one that came off of it is too old or worn to find any identifying marks on it. I have no idea what pitch it is. I think i have settled on going with a 13p prop and was just wondering if i should go with a four blade?

My boat will not plane out and will bog down and shut off if I have to much weight in the rear, so i usually have to get someone to shift to the front to get the boat going. I was wondering if a 4 blade would help fix that? Also 13 is the lowest pitch for a 4 blade for my application.

Thanks

the 13 pitch will probably help...you probably had a higher pitch prop before and this caused your bogging problems. with a pontoon I have not noticed much difference in 3 or 4 blade props, maybe a little better hole shot, but you could lose 1 or 2 MPH. a 13 pitch 3 blade would probably do nice, but a 4 blade should do great also.

Thanks for the reply. I took your advice and ordered the solas amita 4 13 1/4x13. Really hope it works out. Since 4 blades are suppose to pick the stern up a little, I hope it gets the rear of the boat out of water a little better since the rear sits so deep in the water.

Thanks again

I have only had the boat in the water once since I have installed it. The only thing was, it was just me on the boat. Everything seemed good and the boat felt more responsive, but im actually planning in taking it out today with a few more people on it. I will post up how it does to let ya know.

Thanks for the reply. I have a 24 ft pontoon with a 85hp Johnson and I'm considering the same prop just trying to find out how it does on other applications
