I have a 1994, 60hp, 3 cyl. Mercury (serial #OD295655). I was told it should beep a couple of times when the ignition switch is turned on to signal the oil injection system is working properly. It never beeps. Should it beep? If so how can I find out what is wrong causing it not to beep?

Any help would be appreciated!

Most newer Mercs with cowl mounted Oil Injection will beep once when you turn the key. One easy way to test the alarm horn itself is to ground the temperature switch... it should beep when grounded. It is possible your oil alarm module is not working, or that you have a poor connection. Double check the wiring from the oil pump and reservoir level switch.

On older models with boat mounted autolube oil injection, when you disconnect the oil injection system the control unit doesn't beep when you turn the key. The oil warning alarm module is integral to the external oil system.

My oil tank is mounted in the cowl. I have grounded the temp switch and the horn does sound. How do I recognize the oil alarm module and how can I trouble shoot it? Is there a procedure for checking the wiring from the oil pump and oil level sensor?

Thanks for you help!

Re: Should I hear beeps when I turn the key on?

Just had the same problem with my 150 merc. No alarm monitor beeps.I used a meter with a poker on it to test for power at the horn. A little round horn about the size of a quarter that is located inside the console held on to a bundle of wires with a zip tie. I discovered that there was power and then I replace the faulty horn. Works like a champ now.
