should I paint my outdrive?

Volvo on a 1998 Wellcraft 240 SE with 5.7L

I've scraped of the remnants of zebra muscles that were hit with acid before last season (see photos). I'm not concerned with cosmetics, just want it to last as long as it can.

Should I paint or do anything else to the surface before she is put in?

Absolutely! Sand it down, use a good zinc oxide primer and then a good marine paint. If not corrosion will eventually make it even less cosmetically appealing.

The paint itself won't do a whole lot in terms of preserving it, but it looks too ugly right now, so you should do something. Having it smooth and painted should enhance the performnace a bit . .

If you are getting growth on it, then perhaps some outdrive anti-fouling as a final coat. :noidea:
