Hi,

I have a 1986 Honda 10hp four stroke, model # B100S, serial # 1711143. I am reconditioning the engine.

I have the pistons removed and the rings seem to be in good shape. However, will replacing the rings with new ones greatly enhance the compression?

Thanks,

Edward.

baeamy,

Not replacing the rings would make all of your effort seem in vain.

If you have the engine torn down like you say, you should replace the rings while your in there. But be sure that you hone out the cylinders first to make sure that the new rings sit right in the cylinders correct.

After you horn the cylinders, wash them in Hot water with Dawn soap. Then simply air dry it out with a air compression if you have one. After this apply outboard oil the prevent rust, ect..

You can buy a drill mounted hone at a advance auto parts type store. If you don't hone out the cylinders, you will never get new rings to sit right. GOOD LUCK!!!! :)
