Some of you may remember the destruction done to my boat a while back. Had coffee grounds, oil.plastic worms and a few other goodies put in my gas tank.....

Got everything out and replaced hose line. Will oil residue in tank corrupt internal mechanics in engine or should I replace. I've been told not to worry.......thanks ahead of time

Basically it was 30wt grade. Just spent 3200 on a rebuild last year so as you can see I"m a little paranoid.

I dont see a problem but I see your point.
$3200 is not pocket change!

I would consult an expert.
Maybe the one who rebuilt the engine for you.

If you've got an electric fuel pump, you could fill the tank with fresh gas and easily pump out a fuel sample to check for contaminants. Just disconnect the feed hose to the injector or carb and pump into a clear glass container. I'd also replace the fuel filter (and water separator if you have one) after each of the first couple of tankfulls. This would also work with a mechanical pump, but the battery drain would be excesive.

Thanks for the info...Have yet to crank her over until I'm sure this is the best way or just replace it. Installed new hose from entry to tank so far. I'm athinkn that since she hasn't been started yet its safe to assume that nothing has entered system to contaminate engine. The dirtballs got caught before they had a chance to proceed to engine....

I must have recyled tank with water four or five times and all debris is vacant when flushed.

Thanks again for the help and suggestions you have given......

Re: Should I replace or not....

I do now....but if I had it cap locked up the dirtballs would have had time to play with engine before they got caught. I had her stored at my rental property this past winter and you can bet that this winter she will sit in my garage. Already told(asked) better half that her treasures (junk)in the garage are leavn even if I have to build a builing in the back. Never ceases to amaze me on the junk(treasures) that wives can accumulate over a short period of time but thats another thread yet to come.......

Hi there Gonfishn, To be safe, put in about 5 gallons of gas, slosh it around in the tank. The gas will break down the oil. If the tank is a built in, pull it around on the trailer for a little while, drain the gas. Use it in your mowers and other lawn equipment. Should be fine for those. Pump it out using a electric fuel pump. You should be fine. My 2 cents worth....SS

What are you guys Talking about...?????
Engine oil in the gas Will NOT hurt a damn Thing....
Put a fuel filter/ water separator, in-line to stop the crud,+ water....
I Repeat.... Oil will NOT Hurt the engine in any way..... If you dropped about 2qts. per gallon of gas, It Might foul the plugs... But that's the Only Thing.....

Re: Should I replace or not....

The tank is a separate enity so I took Mayfloats suggestion did the gas thing because only film was left on inside. Bondo cured my paranoia and I feel comfortable now in securing tank and platform back on........I hope to put this bad bear in the water next week and I thank all for the help although the fish may think otherwise.....
