Should I replace these riser/manifolds?

Hello,

I have a 2004 cruiser which has 2 5.7 Gi-E's. I purchased the boat used 3 years ago and mainly use it in fresh water (occasional salt water trips). The previous owner was in Florida and said it was primarily used in fresh water, but I suspect it spent a good amount of time in salt. 3 out of 4 risers have what appears to be a small crack in the risers with rust stains running down the riser. There is a small amount of rust stains at the riser gaskets as well (all 4 show that). I have pulled 2 of the risers and the exhaust channel does not have any rust. The water channel seems to have a small amount of rust (no big chunks of metal, jut little flakes). Looking into the manifolds, again there is no rust or obvious signs of water penetration.

My question is, given that 3 of the risers show a small line of rust and that the risers/manifolds are likely original should I replace them or not? I have attached a couple pictures which shows the rust in the water channel and the small faint line of rust on the outside of the riser. I wire brushed the rust away from the line in order to see it better. I find it a little odd that 3 of the 4 risers have the exact same issue in the exact same spot (weak area of the cast iron?)

Thanks for any suggestions you have.

Tim

Ayuh,.... My guess is, those cracks are possibly Freeze damage,...

That said, if the cast iron is cracked Anywhere,...
Yes, it's time for replacement,....

In yer 1st picture, ya gotta Clean the gasket surfaces to shiny metal clean to see whether they're useable, or Not,...
The Clean shiny gasket surface, 'tween the water passage, 'n the exhaust passage, oughta be atleast 1/4" wide, All 'round,...
Ditto the Manifolds,....

Thanks for the reply. So in your opinion they should be replaced due to the crack which I can understand. My next question is more on the lines of trying to save money....should I replace the manifolds at the same time? From what I can tell the manifolds look to be in good shape (no cracks, etc). I will check the manifolds to see if there is 1/4" of metal between the water/exhaust passages.

Thanks

Reasonble doubt-replace them. They're a heck of a lot cheaper than an engine. Don't ask how I know that.
