should i use Bellows Adhesive on the exhaust bellows or not?

This is for a 1985 MR outdrive nearly identical to an ahlpa 1 gen 1...only replacing the exhaust bellows...

should I use the Bellows Adhesive or not? I read on here some say u need to and others say u don't on the exhaust one.

just need to know..I have both the bellows and the adhesive in hand just need to know wether or not to use it or simply use the clamps only.

The exhaust bellows doesn't need anything special. It is not a water tight seal issue. Clamp it and go. There are styles that don't even connect on the drive side. No Biggee.

I already put it on but lemme ask u this and I think I'm right on this..

my exhaust bellows was cracked up and torn and all the other bellows have been replaced and were good.

so I went ahead tho and like I siad replaced the exhaust bellows..but I think I know now why the mechanic that replaced the bellows didn't replace the exhaust one.

my boat has through the hull exhaust so I basically replaced the exhaust bellows for nothing right? o well...I feel better with it not having that torn one on it.

does it even serve a purpose? coudl I just take it off

btw someone pm'ed me and said I need to us eadhevsive except on a gen ii alpha 1? not sure why he is saying that but.

I just read your other thread again . . . even though I posted I didn't connect the two in my head. I guess I 'm getting old You just need to re-read that thread, all of your answers are there

My boat started it's life with OMC King Cobra with thru-hull exhaust. (so it didn't come with an exhaust bellows)


When my brother pulled the engine to rebuild he had the shop install a Y-pipe & Capts Call system so he could do quiet time with people in the boat!


When I got the boat some 12 years later I was replacing wear items (like the whole engine & stern drive eventually)

I called him asked what happened to the exhaust bellows........

He said, "what's an exhaust bellows?"

Seems it never had one. EVER......even after the Capts Call was installed some 12 years prior.....


The replacement bellows had holes strategically placed in the bellows so it would drain.

moral to the story.....you probably could go with out it altogether .......even if you didn't have thru hull exhaust....

ya I put it on there without adhevsive.

was just curious what the proper way to do it was and what a well known marine mechanic woulda done...put adhevsive or not put it.
