Should my motor beep before starting??

Hi guys,


I have an 87 Edson 175 w/a 87 150XR2,it doesn't beep before
starting??Should it for that year?I remember a freind of mine had
a 135 and a 115 they would beep!I dont know there years.

i have an 89 150 and when you turn the key to run, it makes a beeping noise, once the beep goes away, i then go to start it. (FYI beeping is not an alarm or anything.)

There should be a short series of beeps if it has a VRO on it. The beeps indicate that a power on self test is running on the Oil Alert module.

Beeps missing indicate a bad alarm circuit, or the module is dead. (or not getting 12 v power)
