shutter valves on old style mercruiser exhaust

I have a 1979 228 Mercruiser with the old separator and two side exhaust pipes. The backflow shutters mount right at the junction of the separator and the pipe that runs up to the exhaust elbow.

my question is this: I ordered the right part #(60930) and got shutters that are oval shaped and dont look like they fit inside the pipe. I dont want to open the packages and spoil my return part option. Does anyone know if there is another part for this application, or if these oval shutters are correct?

They are correct. You will see why they are shaped like that when you replace them.
