Shutting off fuel supply

Hi,

I have a 2002 Merc 4.3 Carb engine. The instructions on winterizing state that I should shut off fuel to the engine, remove flame arrestor, start engine and spray fogging oil into carb while engine dies.

I don't see a fuel shut off valve - I don't like the prospect of disconnecting fuel lines if I don't have to.

So - Can I disconnect the power to the electric fuel pump? I assume that will cut off the supply of fuel to the carb, but will it do any harm?

Any other ideas would be great. Thanks

Personally, I never liked Mercruisers idea of shutting off the fuel.
If you have stabilizer in the fuel, run the engine, fog it and shut it off when you get enough fogging oil in the engine. No reason in the world to try to time how long it will run and get enough fogging oil in it to do the job.
Besides with the stabilized fuel in the carb, the carb is much better off than being drained. That causes even worse carb plugging problems.

Makes sense. I'll take your advice and switch up...

Thanks for the info. I think I'll follow Don's advice and just fog away and not worry about shutting the fuel off. I plan to add fuel stabilizer beforehand anyways.
