Side door hinge problem

My 2005 Chevy Express van had been getting where the side door is hard to shut. The upper hinge seems to be trying to sieze up. I've sprayed PB blaster on it numerous times, WD-40, and even motor oil. Eventually it is going to start stress cracking the sheet metal around the hinge. I don't really want to mar up the paint on the hinge pin, but it is the only way I can see how I'm going to fix the problem.

I've also noted the same problem on some other vans the same year. Its easy to tell because the side door will appear to be cracked open so slightly. You really have to push it hard to get it to latch.

Has anyone else heard of this problem on these vans? Thanks.........SS

Re: Side door hinge problem

Thanks dolluper, I finally had to knock out the hinge pins. All rusty, no bushings of any type. Apparently salt got into them and rusted them pretty bad. Took a bit of effort to get them out. Wire brushed them and polished them on the buffer wheel. Coated them with white grease and the door closes like it did when it was new. Think I'll drill a hole in the hinge and put a grease zert in. That way I can push some grease in there from time to time.

Thanks again........SS

That's great you did all the work ,keep that lubrplate [white grease] around it's the best esp for hinges last long too
