I've been knocking around a few ideas lately on how to set up my 17' Duratech Sportboat, I was leaning towards stick steering and a forward mounted pedestal seat but was wondering if anyone has ever used a standard helm and wheel mounted on the side in place of the stick steer set up? I sort of like the slower steering of a standard helm. I would use a flatter and larger diameter steering wheel which would sit about 5" inboard of the gunwale. My throttle and controls would be on the opposite side still at arms reach.
Having my weight forward would balance the boat, plus it would allow me to keep the fuel tank and battery closer to the rear.
Does anyone see any drawbacks to using a standard helm and wheel vs. the EZ Stik system?
