I hit a log this weekend while out on the lake, so I have an upcoming insurance job. I wanted to get your opinions on what steps I should take while waiting on the insurance people. The damage on the drive I will attach a picture. Other than the obvious damage, my prop is damaged and you can tail the shaft is bent due to a slight wobble while spinning the prop by hand. My drive had this side to side movement prior to this happening and I wanted to get this fixed as well while it is in the shop. I took the boat by the dealer and they told me they really wouldn’t know what was wrong with it until they pull the drive off. Unfortunately, the best option that I have is a Bryant dealership and my only other options are 50 miles away. I am a little disappointed the dealership didn’t at least throw out a few general ideas in order to get a more accurate repair estimate and they act like insurance must do their thing before we can get down to business on a time line and scope of work.
I am thinking it is the gimbal ring, but I am not a boat mechanic unfortunately.

You have to let the adjuster do his thing before a shop will give any estimate for other repairs. He is protecting his shop as he should with a logical explanation.

That’s good to know! I wasn’t for sure what the process was. I spoke with the adjuster this morning, and they still haven’t received an estimate from the dealer. We are on day 2 awaiting for the estimate.

You need to look at steering arm and connection to power steering on the inside while someone wriggles the drive back and forth on the outside. Either the steering arm to gimbal connection is thrashed or the power steering pivot is shot. Easy to see, easy to video with two people.
