Just finished rebuilding my '76 evinrude 9.9 and went to fire it for the first time today. Tried to turn over once and after many more pulls I decided to pull the plugs to check spark again and squirt a little gas in the cylinders. when I pulled the boot off the first plug the contact that is inside the boot pulled right out with the plug. After a few curse words I pulled the next one and BAM! same friggin thing 
! I just purchased both coils from Iboats ($70 total), and am pretty effing mad that these brand new coils seem to be quite chincy. Will be making a call to see about returning them and looking into possibly buying another brand. Think I saw that Mallory makes coils for this motor as well. Anybody have any luck with them??
