I have a single axle center lift style pontoon trailer that is very tippy. The springs seem to be too soft and the boat, even at standstill will rock side to side very easily. It is outfitted with 1850lb springs and I have been considering upgrading the springs to 2500lb or 3000lb springs to give it greater stiffness. The Mfg of the trailer makes a higher capacity trailer with a tandem axle that uses the exact same frame.

Can the higher capacity springs provide more stability in this case? For me, it is a difference of $60 for new springs or about 400-500 to upgrade trailers.

Any opinions would be appreciated.. Thanks..

Can't lose gambling on the $60.00 springs. Don't go to stiff, though, you may end up without enough give and lose some control on the corners or bumps. Spend $60.00 to save $500.00, sounds like a deal to me. You can spend the rest on bait.

Re: Single Axle Pontoon Trailer

You do know scissor trailers come in two widths 44 and 48 inches wide between the tubes. If your tubes are 48" or more apart and the trailer is 44" that will explain the tipiness. The measurements 44 and 48 are the widths the Pontoon floor rests on when the boat is on the trailer. Not the overall width of the trailer not outside wheel to wheel. Sorry I forgot this is an old post.

Hopefully you are using a trailer that was meant for the highway. Dont the pontoons have a "yard" trailer...that's just meant for the boat yard and servicing.
