Single engine outboard motor bracket

Looking to fabricate a bracket to replace an old OMC Sea Drive. Does anyone know specs if there are standard measurements for the brackets. Looking at setting it back 18 to 29 inches from the transom.

If you were here in the US I would suggest that you look for a junked out motor with a good Sea Drive and swap. Those Sea Drives are rather complex as you know. I am told though that the motors are the same as any other OMC. I have the OMC shop and parts manual for my 1988s and I doubt that they would be of any use in fabricating a replacement.<br /><br />You may have considered this but you might be better off converting you motor back to the standart OMC bracket and going from there. You could fabricate a bracket I guess by taking measurements from an existing one at a local marina. If you go that route you need to consider the nasty salt water invironment that they are subject to (ie a steel one probably won't last very long).

There was an ad I saw a few months ago where someone had a 22' Starcraft aluminum cuddy which originally had an OMC sterndrive. About a 1985 boat, if I recall.<br /><br />The seller had removed the engine and also the lower section of the sterndrive and replaced it with a 9.9 hp Evinrude outboard. Still used the sterndrive steering and tilt. Looked like a very simple, if strange, swap.<br />Think that a large vertical bolt attached the outboard to the upper sterndrive section.

Thanks guys. But I heard theres a way to repower with a bracket from Stainless Marine company. Any other suggestions. Hard to find parts here for the Sea Drive.

I was looking at doing the same thing to a sportcraft before i gave in and bought new. do a little looking on the web- some sites sell stripped down kits for serious do-it-yourselfers at a lower cost, while others sell complete kits. anyway, I found that all the manufacturers agreed that a bracket could be added without much, if any, extra reinforcing on solid transom with a factory OMC seadrive.<br />www.stainlessmarine.com<br />www.dadmarine.com<br />www.gilmarine.com
