Personally I think it's a good deal. Since you may need one I say go for it.

My friend has one like that but dual axle and he hates it.

The boat is to high on the center of gravity.

He said while driving it a 1/2 mile from the ramp to his house it went up on it's side a couple times.

I'm hearing horror stories.

I say wait and find one that the toons ride on bunks.

Re: sissor trailer what do you think,

I guess it would depend on how it would be used.

If hauling a long distance, I would be concerned with the relatively narrow wheel track and perhaps it's apparent lack of brakes (hard to tell). My guess is that if used on the road, you would have to go slow, especially around corners.

If to be used on-site or for very short local hauls, it may be worth it.

Re: sissor trailer what do you think,

That trailer is commonly called a "yard trailer" and is not intended for high speed transport of a pontoon. It doesn't even have springs and I suspect the tire capacity is likewise too light for even the smallest of pontoons. This is a trailer that allows you to get the 'toon into and out of the water. Not for highway travel.

i have a bunk trailer, the idea is to get the toon off the trailer so i can work on both before Spring. then i can rent it to other toon owners. or sell it.

Yard trailers are also good for putting your pontoon on blocks or the ground. As stated they are not intented for long travel and not very good for short travel unless they are perfectly centered on trailer. Sounds perfect for what you are going to use it for.

Re: sissor trailer what do you think,

Don't be fooled by the narrow axle width on a sissor trailer. If you understand the dynamics of weight distribution and CG, these trailers are quite stable under most conditions except for an extremely abrupt swerve. With the pontoons hanging down the CG is much lower than one would expect. I prefer a bunk trailer for pontoons since the entire boat is supported rather than having the tubes just hanging from the framework. Sissors are fine for short tow but for the long haul, as in my case, the bunk style works best and is better for the boat.

TD, at that price you can hardly not get it.

Just watch backing it in, I have seen alot of boats jacked up pretty good by getting the trailer in crooked or bouncing it off 1 tube, make sure the side rollers are in good shape.

Shouldn't spend the money right now but I have a line on a 50'' plasma, in the box, for $250, I would be crazy not to get it, legal, company went out of buisness and a guy I know bought an entire skid of them, some deals you just don't pass up.

Re: sissor trailer what do you think,

I was going to ask if the first set of bars are supposed to be bent (not on the new trailer).

I guess its to late anyhow :)

Re: sissor trailer what do you think,

the trailer move up and down, by cranking the winch, it goes in between the pontoons, and picks the boat up. the picture is in the up position. the bars have to come down to align with the tow vehicle hitch.

Re: sissor trailer what do you think,

I had one of these and despised it, always looked and felt like the boat was going to tip over/toons drag the ground etc when going over dips or say coming up out of the yard. Sold it for 900.00 and bought some steel for a bunk trailer w/brakes. If your boat stayed in the water most of the time however, I'd say a trailer like that would waste very little yard space when compared to a bunk style trailer. Guess it all boils down to what your situation is. For long hauls I would recommend a bunk style with brakes!

Also beware on the between the toons trailers that a tire change is a royal pain in the butt with the boat on it, and god forbid you have a bearing go out with the boat on it!

Re: sissor trailer what do you think,

as i said, i bought it to do repairs on my bunk trailer, and to get access to service my toons. after wards i will either get my $ out of it, or put it on craigslist as a rental, for moving or repairs.
