After enjoying reading about everyone else's blunders, I figured it was about time for my contribution.

Had a family reunion of sorts at a small lakeside resort in British Columbia. Had my 16 footer moored to a buoy about 20 yards from shore as there was no docking facilities.

It was supposed to storm that evening, so myself and a buddy decided to put the canvas storage tarp on the boat. Since the tarp was already in the boat, we just had to swim out and put it on.

We both got in the boat starting unrolling from the bow towards the stern. Once we got to the stern, it was just a matter of jumping in the water and swimming around the boat tugging the tarp down as we went.

Unfortunately, just a split second before I jumped in, my feet slipped out from under me. My butt landed on the edge of the boat with my swimming trunks getting caught on the cleat. I ended up with my feet in the air, my trunks caught on the cleat and my head underwater. Had to keep doing sit-ups to breathe.

My buddy had just hopped in the water moments before all this happened so was unaware of my perdiciment. My calls for help were met with a "Yeah, yeah...I be right there" kind of response. Eventually when my buddy realized my situation, he tried to lift me back into the boat, but given he was swimming couldn't really help much. Then he tried to get my trunks uncaught from the cleat, but no go....about the time he started to climb back into the boat to lift me back in, the trunks finally gave way and ripped right open.

Had to go back to shore holding my trunks on as best as I could with the entire family enjoying the moment. Ended up with a serverely bruised leg not to mention ego!
