The Model # T820 with a S/N #481263. I have checked the FAQ's,marinshop site and other sites, but still can't match model numbers.

Now What??? Suggestions??
Hi MRosen,
I'm am going to guess that if you doublecheck the model number it will be a TD20, not T820, made in the late 1940s. Your serial number means it's likely a '46 model. Good little motors - very simple and usually easy to get running if it's in basically sound condition...
Run it on a steady diet of 24:1 fuel mix...

- Scott
If that is a TD-20, it is 5.0hp.

Spark plugs should be Champion J8C (formerly J8J) gapped at .030"

Set the point gap at .020"

Good luck.
Also, to add a bit more detail - a search on the TD20 (or TD-20) model number here on iboats ought to cover a fair amount of detail as they are a common old motor... There have been quite a few posts from other TD20 owners, as well as it's similar 5hp siblings the TD15, TN26, TN27, and TN28.
- Scott
hi
i just picked up an old boat with 115Hp
I am trying to determine the make
the cover says evinrude
but the tag on mount has
115esl74b, which is johnson
I guess someone could have changed cover and/or motor mount/lift?
is there other numbers, items inside engine bay to find which motor it really is?
thanks
newbie
Welcome to Iboats, Slick Rick!
It's best to start your own post rather than replying to others, even if the question is somewhat similair. In bad cases, the theme of the discussion goes off to the second poster's question and the discussion is effectively 'hijacked'.

It's very common for outboards to have their engine covers replaced at one time or another with one that fits from the junkyard after the original gets lost (often overboard). Since Evinrudes and Johnsons of that era (1974) are identical, the Evinrude covers fit Johnson outboards. Most likely something like this happend.
On the engine block itself will be a round convex silver disc about the size of a quarter. It ought to have the same serial number stamped into it as on the engine ID tag. If this matches, you can be fairly certain that the cover just got swapped.
Good luck!
Thanks Paul,
I tried to post a new post but it told me I dont have permission to do this,
anyway
I looked for this plug, but could not find.
where exactly is it on the engine?
is it covered up-remove anything to see?
Thanks for help!
rick
