Hello Everyone! I have a 1990 Skeeter SD-80 with a 90 HP Evinrude (1989 Model.) The boat is 15.25 Ft long and weighs 800 lbs. empty, according to specs. I am currently running a 13 3/8" x 17" stainless OMC prop. Top speed is 42 MPH @ 4900 RPM's, fully trimmed WOT. I recently changed the prop from a 13" x 19" stainless because I could only reach 4500 RPM's and didn't want to lug the engine. My question is, should I not be turning more like 5500 RPM's? In order to do so, it looks like I would have to go with a 13" x 15" prop, which is more along the lines of a pusher prop for party barges and such, right? I am confused and need a little input from someone who has more experience with these setups... Thanks for any help as it is appreciated!!!

You may want to play with the setup.
If you don't have any venting problems motor is probably too low.Starting with the antivent plate even with the bottom of the boat raise the motor a hole at a time to a point just before venting becomes a problem.Carefully adjust trim as you go.You could gain a couple of mph at no cost.

Re: Skeeter SD-80 w/90 Evinrude Prop Question

That sounds like a good idea, I think the motor may be a little on the low side. I can go wide open into a turn, with it trimmed out and it will stick throughout. Maybe I can take the motor off and add a jackplate while experimenting with engine height? Would this hull be a good candidate for a jack plate???
