Has anyone here ever damaged the back side of the skeg?
Went out last night and when we were wiping down the boat noticed a large chunk of the back side of the skeg had broken off. We are not aware of hitting anything but there it is. No damage to the prop, the front leading edge of the skeg nor the bottom edge. Just a large round chunk off the back side about in the center.

Re: Skeg Damage

I've seen that when a rock gets picked up and slammed into the back of the skeg. Oddly enough seems fairly common.

Re: Skeg Damage

I have seen a bunch myself, boat owners always claim to have hit nothing, I just figured they were embarrassed to admit it... Until I noticed my drive was missing same little piece. I think it may be a communist plot to overthrow the government, or the U.S. marine industry, even though the voices all say it isn't

Yep, mine looks like a shark fin. Took a good chunk out of it on a rock but only minor damage to the prop. I just filed the skeg to remove sharp edges and repainted. More careful now too!
