ski twin decode please

I'm having trouble decoding the engine that came with my 1971 15' MFG Niagara. I know nothing about the engine or the boat. I have these two numbers off the engine..

Model: 40153G

Serial: J04052

I purchased the boat, trailer and engine for $400. SO far all the engine needed was the stripped head fixed (thread insert), tune up and some cleaning and painting. It runs like a champ and pumps water good. I took the lower unit off and serviced it to be safe, it was like new inside.

If anyone has some input on the motor regarding the numbers or the type and make of boat that would be great.

40153 is a 1971, 40 hp.

"MFG" is a boat brand name. Most of the ones that I've seen were molded lapstrake fiberglass. I'm not familar with the "Niagra" model.

My first boat was an MFG glass lapstrake, nice little boats.
Fiberglassics has lots of info on the older hulls.

thanks for all the good info. Im just using this boat for fishing once in awhile and not keeping it in the water. I picked up a pass for launch neer me that puts me in the Raritan River. I really want a windshield for it but it will probably end up costing than the entire cost of the boat.
