skipping in foward

Motor skipping/jumping in foward

I have a ​

2006 225hp etec I replaced the prop seals and water pump. After I installed and got the shifting adjusted at the dock went out and found when I go over 2500 rpm it starts skipping in forward. I tried adjusting the shift cable for more forward but dose the same thing and started to lose reverse, Do you think I should adjust the shift rod 1 turn for more forward or could it be bad gears.
