I was up at the lake riding my Polaris SL750 when the plug in the side of head where water flows through broke loose and somehow came out. Well anyways water started to get pumped into the engine compartment and before I realized what was happening the ski shuts off and I open the seat to find nearly the whole engine compartment filled with water. We tow the ski in and pull it onto the trailor and remove the drain plug and let the ski drain. When all the water had drained out we started the ski up again to see if it would run, well it seemed to run alright so we went home. (big mistake starting it i think)

When we get home I tell my dad, who is a mechanic but new to the world of pwc's, and he starts it up to find that now the engine will not throttle up and go. It is like it will not run 100% anymore. So he runs a compression check on all 3 cylinders but we have no idea what the compression should be on these engines. So does anyone know what the compression should be on each cylinder in a Polaris SL750.

Also what should we do to fix my ski. What could have happened and what should we do to diagnose the problem.

You can email me or just reply to this topic.
deaton405@woh.rr.com

Re: SL750

I am not sure what the exact compression on a Polaris is, but I would guess between 100 and 115 lbs. More important is that the compression is within 5 lbs of each other. It not wanting to throttle up could be your reed valves (I assume they are in Polaris)being wet. Actually the best thing you can do to a motor that has taken in water is to fix the problem, and run it hard as soon as possible! I have heard guys saying 5 or 10 min., but I have always run mine hard for 1/2 hour, and you can notice it running better and better as it drys out. Remeber though, after getting water out of hull, you want to pull the spark plugs and crank motor untill all water is pumped out of inside it.

SBT has a good video on their site describing, and showing how to deal with a flooded ski.
http://www.sbtontheweb.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/23/39.html

Re: SL750

running a polaris sl750 out of the water will seem like it is not revving all the way with the throttle lever due to a rev limiter. i have a sl750 and it seems the same way but it is fine in the water because the prop has water around it for resistance.
