Slack in DPS-A steering?

When preparing the boat for the season I noticed that there is about an inch of slack/play when moving the tip of exhaust/cavitation plate to left and right. Haven't paid attention whether it has been always there or is it something new. Is that normal or should I be looking for some worn steering joint somewhere in the transom assembly?

You might find the slack won’t be there, when the engine is running and hydraulics are in play. If it is...there is slack that can be taken up at the steering mechanism at the inner transom

Found the culprit - two linkages inside the boat have minor slack, really small. However, the whole outdrive is like 2 ft long if not more and it adds up to like an inch in the tip of the exhaust. Seems to be "designed" so.

Thought it would be there. Quite common.
