I have a stack of photo slides from 35yrs back. They are all in good condition.<br /><br />Has anyone ever been able to scan then to their computer, and come up with a good copy.?<br /><br />I bought a scanner couple of years back, with a little attachment that the slides went in to be scanned, but it was pretty hopelss and I gave up.<br /><br />I have just got a Brother photocopier that will scan to and print from my computer (the one with the big ink cartridge) but before I go wasting time, has any one any experience or suggestions.<br /><br />This is probably a stupid idea, but what would happen it I put the slides in a projector; put the photo up on a white wall (at night, lights out), and took a digital photo of the picture.?<br /><br />I don't own a projector any more, so that is why I ask.<br /><br />Cheers<br />Phillip

With all that extra cash you gunna get from your new wacky tabaky plantation.... woops, I mean 'herbs', find a shop that does tranfers to CD. That's what I did, it wasn't expensive. Teds camera stores do it.<br /><br />Aldo

can't really help ya..<br /><br /> but there's a place around here that for 30 bucks ,,takes your 100 slides a puts them on a 5 second pause dvd..

Almost any photo store these days will transfer your negatives or diapositives as individual picture files onto a CD for you and include some kind of automatic display program on the CD as well.<br /><br />There are also several small scanners dedicated to this particular kind of task. I think they are manufactured by Canon, Minolta and Ricoh, and they cost around $100-200. Might be worth it if you have a lot of old slides and pictures you want converted over.

The answer is yes, slides are made from the actual film and your photos will come out great. NOW, my scanner came with a slide adapter and I am looking for it right now to see what the adapter actually does. I will let you know as soon as (if) I can find it..... new house!

ok this thing is about 6 X 6.5 inches and it looks like what it does is holds the cover off the slide so light can pass through it. with the adapter in the top left hand corner of my flatbead scanner the cover is up about 1 inch.<br /><br /> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/onemorecast/adapter.jpg

Hey, how come your guys arn't at work or sleeping. It is 10pm here and i can't believe the speed of the replies.<br />Thanks Aldo, your an absolute gem A yr or so back I went to a couple of places and they wanted $1.50 to $3 each, and I have over 400.<br />Will try again. Phil, I have a HP Scanjet 7400c that does a very good job with negatives and slides. I've had it a couple of years so I would imagine the newer ones will do an even better job. Chief <br />If you want I will post some examples of digital pictures from 50+yo b/w negatives. Pictures from before I was a pirate.

That's a good idea Chief. I would like to see the results.<br />Have rung around and Kodak want $1 per slide, Camera House $3.<br />Camera House wanted to sell me a special scanner for slides and photo negatives at $599.<br />I have probably 400 to do.<br />Did the scanjet 7400c take very long to scan each slide?<br />Thanks<br />Cheers<br />Phillip

Phil, I was in the same situation as you and I took the box of negatives to the photo lab and a month later they hadn't gotten to it, and then told me that for the cost to do the job I could buy a small house. For the 5-600 negatives I scanned it took about 3 hours of time everyday for the next 2 weeks. I havn't done many slides yet, but they are much easier to handle and are done 4 at a time, so, I think just doing slides would be an easy task. I will get some of these self-digitized negatives up and show you the results, which I am quite happy with. Chief, pirate and future pieman

Phil, here's a few scanned negatives and slides. <br />

<br />this first one can be dated by the auto's in the garage. It from a poorly stored negative.<br />

<br />This second one is a larger format slide from about 1950. As you can see it came out quite legible.<br />

<br />This third one is a from a 35mm slide, not bad for such a small format.<br />

<br />and the last is from a severely faded negative. I was able to save some family memories that 25 years ago would have been lost. BTW, that's future pirate and pieman Chief taking a bath. Chief, pirate and future pieman.

Great photos Chief, especially the old ones. Old ones, for some reason, seem to tell more of a story...like the car in the shed, the caravan, tin bath and truck....and the expressions of the people....great.<br />The best one is the one from ? 1950. Is that your Mum and Dad, you being one of the babies. That slide came up really well.<br />I will start checking out what is available, plus that item you mentioned Xcusme.<br />Will get back to you when done.<br />Actually a lot of my slides are of 173rd Airborne at LZ English and surrounding districts around Xmas of '70.<br />Thanks for all the help<br />Cheers<br />Phillip

Yes Phil, that be me mum n' dad. My twin younger sisters born in 1951. I don't know the format of that one as it is almost twice a large the 35mm slides. The one in red is me mum, maybe 1970, and is 35mm. The last one is taken with a small box camera, is me in a small logging camp near a town called Keene. Chief

Phil, scanning film (negs or positives) is best done with a scanner designed for that, it will have a backlight involved. If you don’t have a scanner with backlight, get one or pay someone to scan your images. The difference is like night and day compared to a regular scanner. Hi-res scanning is done on a drum scanner. Forget it, costs a couple grand for a decent one.<br /><br />Chief, that neg that is almost twice the size of a 35mm neg was likely exposed on roll film that was common at that time. It is probably the most common size of roll film, today known as 120 film. Because it is a roll film, different formats would expose different lengths of the roll. Negs could be 6x6 (6cm square), 6x9, 6x8, 6x7, or what you probably have, 6x4½, known as 645 format. Fwiw, 645 is still a very popular format for 120 roll film. For reference, 35mm film is used to create a 3.6cm x 2.4cm image, compared to a 645 image that is 6cm x 4.5cm.

18, I am aware of the negative sizes, and, also the scanner I use has a backlight and is intended for the purpose of scanning negatives and slides as is the software. Chief
