Re: Slideshow of the boat I built
Thanks guys!
We were talking about building her for a while but just didn't start. I hooked into a job away for 8-10 months making a lot more than I was used too. When I got laid off that spring I had a bit of extra money in my account and needed something to keep me busy. I took it in my head one evening to start, me and a buddy went and picked up a couple sheets of plywood and a box of beer, by 11 pm that night the frames were all made, and the counter and keel was laid, lol.
I started her in April, she hit the water for the first time July 11th. She could've been done sooner but it's not like I was spending 50 hours a week at it, lol. Although the last two weeks I punched quite a few 18-20 hour days at her trying to get her finished up.
We didn't have any plans as such, she's our own design. We took some measurements off a buddies boat as a starting point and made our changes to suit our needs. SwordsBeginner, go for it, it's not as hard as you might think, you'll enjoy it. I worked building fiberglass long liners (35-72') for 12-14 years so I was at a bit of an advantage but it's not difficult. If you have any questions I'll be glad to help you if I can.
My grandfather actually wasn't with us to take part in the build, he passed away a few years ago. I'm sure if her were still with us he wouldn't have missed a moment of it though. He built a few in his day. The last picture is of him in the last one he built for himself, I spent MANY hours with him in that boat. She's still up in my backyard and will be restored one day.
