HELP! I have an 89 Mercury 100HP Outboard. A month ago my lower unit cracked when my friend lowered unit(LU) too far when we were washing down... I have since then gotten the LU welded and I have spent the past two days trying to get it back on my boat. I manage to get it on but REVERSE will not engage. Does any one which way the sliding clutch dog should face when installed? I think I might have put it on backwards. The dog has two sides, one has square teeth which look like the top of a rook (castle) chess peice and the other has teeth with a slanted side. I wanted to know which side goes to the reverse gears that are on the propeller shaft. Right now I have the slanted side facing the gears that are located on the front part of the LU. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
