Hi,
I wonder if it is possible to use a sliding sleeve with part nr 3855783 on a Penta DPA? (The newer version has part nr.3807613) I have mounted everything and it seems to be working alright (tested on land) but I got a bit scared because I can not find the old part numbers on pentas exploded views anymore, as I did only half a year ago. The sleeve (3855783) is now mounted together with the new shift shoe (part.nr. 3856502) in my drive. I have also shifted the ring to the newer version. Before I mounted the sleeve I compared it with the newer version, and they were almost 100% identical, exept for the color (the new is more yellow, and the older looks is steel-colored, with touhe of yellow). Does anyone have experience with this? Will it work also in real life? Thank you in advance!

Best Regards

I think it will work fine. My DP-A2 had a 3855783 clutch in it until I replaced it with 3807613. I replaced it because it was slipping at salmon trolling speed (3 knots). However, I think it slipped because I was using synthetic gear oil. Once I switched to non-synthetic, the slippage problems disappeared. My DP-A2 is coupled to an AD41B diesel engine.

Thanks! I feel calmer now. I also run it on syntetic oil. Was your cone wore down when you changed it?

The clutch doesn't wear down so much as it gets shiny and I guess doesn't allow the gear oil to get squeezed out from between the cone and the cups on the gears. The last time I replaced the cone I lapped the cups with coarse valve lapping compound and an old cone to remove some "brassing" on them and to roughen them slightly. That and non synthetic oil, no problems since.

Mobil make a Mobil 1 LS 75W - 90 for limited slip diffs it has a friction modifier added, might just work.
I have been running the Mobil 1 SHC 75W - 90 for 8 years in my DP-SM without problems.
