This is either props or boats. Will try props.

So I finally hit a calm day at the lake and the temp was bearable. I just drained the tank, put in clean fuel, and added some Sea Foam to do my maintenance per you guys. Did the 1 oz per gallon thing and after 4 hours of goofing off, fishing a little, running a lot, it idled a lot smoother and hole shot much faster and smoother. Course to be honest, it warmed up to a shirtsleeve day which may have helped.

Anyhew I was putting along at WOT where I have a 10% calculated slip... I backed off the throttle thru 5500, 4500 and 3500 and my little boat went from a 10% to a 32% slip. Course I'm running a high pro prop (lotta rake and cup) designed to run, not put around....less rake would probably have flattened out the loss curve, but I bet my WOT speed would be surely less.

Soooooo for those folks looking to maximize their mpg, looks like the faster the better.....but I don't know what the engine efficiency looks like at those numbers. Probably not that bad as the hull drag is significantly lower and I'd doubt that the efficiency would drop off over 20% from 3500 to WOT. Course the hull is 3 step padded with reverse chines which is also built to run.

Fuel consumption? Ha! I put in 10 gallons this morning and I'd swear that I had 9 left when I got home....Loopers wala.

So you ask, why the post? I dunno. Maybe something is in here to do someone some good. We talk a lot about props and performance on here, but I don't see too much chatter about slippage, and nothing concerning slippage over the rpm curve.

Mark

Personally I pay a lot of attention to slip. It's about the only way we have, without running the rig, to tell if the set up is in the ballpark. Lots of times you'll see a post where we tell somebody the numbers dont add up. Started a lot of conversations about tachs and accuracy.

I think Walleyehed looks at slip % a lot too.
