Re: Slipping at higher RPM ?
AV plate? bottom of boat is a little above prop
Antiventilation plate. The plate above the prop. Its purpose is to stop air being drawn down into the prop.
(Sometimes incorrectly called an anticavitation plate.)
The AV plate should be a level with the bottom of the transom. Up to perhaps a couple of inches lower will be OK but the lower you mount the engine the greater will be the drag. Much higher and you run the risk of air being dawn into the prop.
88 is what i came up with too but i thought 88 and 89 didnt use butterfly type choke which it has and there is a small sticker by the fuel hookup that says to run 100/1 fuel ratio, and it has the slots to put a water hose and huff on it, i have a 89 model 8hp that dont have water hookup
The 100:1 sticker makes it 1985, 86 , 87 or 88. I think by 1989 they had given up on 100:1 but not exactly sure what year they did that.
( not running yours on 100:1 I hope)
All those years ITYWF had butterfly chokes. In fact later ones too except where electric primer pumps were fitted ( to electric start models I guess)
They all also had water intakes that muffs could be fitted too.
You cannot, except for the fuel mixture issue, compare them with the 8HP models IIRC manual primer pumps were fitted to some 8hp models ( 86 to 89 ??) but I don't think muffs could be fitted to any.
