Slipping

I was running by pontoon the other weekend and everytime I would give it some gas, the motor would rev up, but the boat wouldn't go any faster. It's like it was slipping.

Is this caused by the rubber thingy in the prop slipping? I have not hit anything and I bought the prop back in May, so it's not that old.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
John

Yep, Spun hub in the prop is most likely it....

What would cause this? As I mentioned, I haven't hit anything with my prop and it's only around 4 months old.

Re: Slipping

Did you have more weight up front than normal? That would raise the back end of the 'toon and the prop would ventilate. To check if the prop has a spun hub, use a scratch awl and place a mark on the hub and another on the outer part of the prop, in-line with the mark on the hub. Run the engine until the problem occurs. See if the marks are still lined up. If they are the prop is ok. If not, the hub has spun.
