having problem with my 96 ocean runner 200 hp idles fine only hit 3100 and shakes no power to get on plane but does not stall. im having mechanic look at it next week but try the small things myself.anyway some one told me if my oil tank was less than half full it could put me in to slow mode.i have no alarms sounding I am 1/4 tank and my book says I have a blocking diode the should not allow low oil alarm from putting me in slow mode/.
any thought or truth to this. going to fill and see what happens

slow mode will come on because of overheat. have you tested your alarm to make sure that it is still working? also the powerpack can go into slowmode sometimes on its own because of a short or other fault. you can disconnect the tan wire going to your power pack to make sure it is the power pack and not a harness short or other. If it still goes into slow mode replace your power pack. but make sure that you are going into slow mode. slowmode should kick out 3 cylinders at 2500 RPM not 3100. maybe your tach is off or something else is the issue. you also have a shift interrupter switch that is on your shifter linkage. you can disconnect it to see if that is your problem.

there is a single tan wire that goes to your powerpack. to test your alarm, you can find the place where your tan wire has a connection and slide the rubber back and ground it out with the key switched to the on position, alarm should sound. connection is about 6 inches up the wire from the sensor in the head.

there should be a connector about 6 inches from your power pack for the single tan wire, this is the wire that tells your power pack to go into slow mode.

ok so you are talking about the tan wire from temp sensor on the starboard bank .
I also would like to check sensor it self I was told if I but a tone meter on the leads when cold if I get tone sensor is bad ? and that would be the one with white/black and tan/black wire correct
and I had spark on all cylinders under a load we tied up boat in slip put in gear and tested ea coil/spark all good so the shift int can not be the problem

I am not sure how to test a sensor. but if you get no resistance (OHM) between the tan wire and engine ground then it is bad for sure.

get yourself a new horn/buzzer. very important. I got 3 engines in my back yard right now with warped cylinders due to prolonged overheat because of a bad buzzer. $2000 motor now worth $200. I pick them up for even less than that sometimes.

Engine has to be running for the alarm to sound off. Lights will work, but no sound when testing like you describe.
The tach controls the warning horn, and it must have engine pulses to trigger the alarm.
