I have a 1989 150 blackmax and i recently replaced the water pump. The pee stream is really strong but it takes about 10 to 15 seconds to start peeing. Im worried this may be damaging something any ideas. thanks

Re: slow peeing

I think thats probably normal,it will take at least that long for the engine to get up to temperature enough for the thermostats to open...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: slow peeing

Having had a son's 150 and spending a fair amount of time on the plumbing design(s), I don't think all Merc V's are plumbed identically.

If yours is directly plumbed, like from the top of the block, it takes time for the water pump to get the block filled and 10-15 seconds seems perfect.....higher the rpm's, or if on muffs with good garden hose pressure, time will obviously be less.

If yours is plumbed off the stat outlet(s) then you have to wait till the stats open to get any decent pee and when the engine is cold, the pee could come and go as the stats open and close until it warms up enough for them to remain open. His was plumbed like this and I replumbed it directly.....just as you are concerned, I couldn't stand to wait until the stat decided to open to see the pee stream.....course the OT alarms help to ease tensions, but I still like to see it.
