!988 150 blk max 19 ft wellcraft fisherman
Another problem Last weekend went fishing, Boat seemed different in no wake zone before the open bay. Punched it and it would not get up. It seemed to ge running ok [no sputtering or shaking] but it would not jump up as it has all summer. Drove it for a distance the rpm slowly increased and up on plane it went. But every time I stppped the same slow prosses to plane out. No water in the bilge no extra weight in the boat. Felt like I was pulling a bucket behind the boat
Thanks , Dead eye

As andy suggests,,,

This could be anything from a spark plug lead not connected to a coil failure, a switchbox problem, etc...

I'll start with the spark test and go from there. Could it be fuel problem?
Will post back.
Thanks, Dead eye

Check stator at idle , 3000rpms , and full throttle loaded engine.

Re: Slow to Plane 150 blk max

I replaced the top 2 plugs. I'm guessing they were fouled. [black oily] Must of been fouled because she ran great afterward. I don't have a spark tester so i pulled each boot off while running to check for spark. 1,2,4 the jolt was minor. 3,5,6 got a good jolt. Why? this was the same before and after I put new plugs in 1&2
Thanks, Dead Eye

Re: Slow to Plane 150 blk max

could be the stator or the switchbox that the minor jolt is coming from

Re: Slow to Plane 150 blk max

But the minor jolt comes from both sides.
1,3,4 minor jolt
2,5,6 major jolt
Am I correct the switchboxes are fo each side of the motor and work independtly of each other?
Why get weak spark on 1,3,4? I would think all odd or all even. Does anyone have opions on the motor running great after 1,2 spark plug replacements.
Thanks, Dead Eye

Re: Slow to Plane 150 blk max

Those plugs could have been completely fouled, thus not igniting the fuel/air mixture.

The switchboxes are sorta independent, i.e. one controls 1,3,5 and the other 2,4,6. However, they are connected by a wht/blk wire (for timing) and hence one bad box can affect the other. They can affect one another to the point that say for example you have spark on 1,3,5 and only 2,4. The switchbox for 1,3,5 (the supposedly good switchbox) can actually be the cause of cylinder 6 not firing and hence it is bad when the other isn't.

-andy
