SLUGGISH RUNNING AT IDLE

1988 MERCURY 150 XR4 STARTS FINE WHEN UNLOADING FROM TRAILOR IDLES FINE GETS UP ON PLANE GREAT AND RUNS WHEN I'AM COMING TO A STOP AND GET STOPPED JUST TO IDLE IN GEAR IT STARTS RUNNING SLUGGISH I CAN FAST IDLE IT AND SOMETIMES STARTS RUNNING O.K. AND SOMETIMES NOT BUT IF I TURN THE ENGINE OFF FOR A LIITLE WHILE IT WILL START BACK UP AND RUN O.K. UNTILL I COME BACK OFF OF PAD AGAIN ANY SUGGESTIONS THANKS.

i had same thing yesterday with my 115hp merc, it was my fuel tank, it wasnt vented properly... just a thought

Ric, It sounds like it may be running hot when you slow from high speed to idle, due to residual heat from the high speed run. Check the tell tale for excessive heat when you first slow down. If it is hot, you probably are running hot or close to it at high speed. If this is the case, you probably need to find out why.

Ric,<br /><br />On those engines there is a module called an 'Idle stabilizer'. A lot of people disconnect them, for some unknown reason. You should check that it's still connected and functioning properly.<br /><br />Chris..........
