Ok gentleman I just bought a 1997 240 horizon with the fuel injected 454 and a volvo penta sx corbra with a 1.43 ratio.. I live at 6000' above sea level . The boat came from about 600' above sea level .. I put a four blade prop 17 pitch and the boat seems to do pretty good at the begging of the day.. I think it could be better however.. But the problem is that after awhile out on the lake doing some skiing and just sitting there. It almost will not plain... Takes awhile... I have moved people to the front etc .. I also lose about 500 to 1000 rpm at take off. Seems like motor is struggling... and with a 454 i dont think it should be.. Once we get cruising it seems to be ok but still not right.... when I pull the drain plug there is only about 4-5 gallons that comes out probably less... So I don't think that it is a extra water in the bilge problem.. But would cause the change from the begging of the day to the end of the day... Thinking of going to a 15 pitch prop.. but not sure if I shouldnt be looking into motor issues or outdrive ????

When takeing off lower the out drive all the way down, as you pick up speed bump the power trim up until you reach plane. Then aujust speed and plane. Operating in Bow up - Position "bow-up" position isnormally used for cruising, running with choppy wave condition, or running at full speed. In the full "bow-up" position, the boat may tend to turn. You may have to compensate with the steering wheel to keep the boat in a straight ahead path. In this position the boat's bow will tend to raise clear of the water.Excessive "bow-up" trim will cause propller ventilation resulting in propeller slippage. Use caution when operating in rough water or crossing another boat's wake Excessive bow -up trim may result in the boat's bow rising rapidly ejecting the occpants.
" Bow -down" The "boe-bown" position is normanly used for acceleration onto a plane, operating at slow planing speeds, and running against a choppy wave condition. Inthe full up " bow- down " position the boat may tend to turn. You may have to compenstate with the steering wheel to keep the boat in a straight ahead path. In this postion the boat's bow will tend to go deeper into the water. ifthe boat is operated at high speed and/ or aganinst highwaves, the bow of the boat will plow into the water. The boat may tend to bow steer or spin about rapidly and possibly eject occupants.

I'm experiencing the same thing with my 454. Are you still having trouble? Mine is definetely nothing to do with the trim.

I am just doing the math here, but.....this is a year old thread, the OP has only one post.
