Small amount of water spitting out of outer exhaust housing cover

I noticed a small amount of water spitting out of the outer exhaust housing cover while it was running. The lower left side of the cover appears to have the leak.

Is this a sign of a larger issue or simply a gasket gone bad?
Thanks

Do you see any water leaking under the cowl? Perhaps from the thermostat manifold block? Hoses?

If not, the powerhead to mid section gasket may be bad.

I replaced the t-stats today. All that looks good.
It is definitely the out exhaust housing. It is a new motor to me and I am hopeful this is simply a gasket issue.

Just to make sure, you're talking about the wrap around lower cowl. Correct?

If so, there is a seam there. However, I'm not so sure it's an issue.

Remove that cover and have a look.

Model is a 88HP TSLEOC. The parts you referenced are the ones I am talking about, thank you for pulling that up. I had looked this up to price out the gasket and it is resonable.

See picture attached. The leak is from the lower left bolt, second from the bottom. You can see the small puddle of water adjacent to this area.

The problem becomes getting those corroded looking bolts out without shearing them off.

Also I am hoping I am diagnosing this correctly as a leak from the gasket of the exhaust housing cover not a crack in the cylinder cover.

I see now. I was way off.

It's not good to have that moisture flying around under there.

You probably will break off some bolts. That's not the end of the world.

Yup the bolts are going to be hard to get out without breaking them off. Im gonna deal with this wort of work soon on my 1989 150hp XR4 Merc and not looking foward to it.

Mapp torch , PBlaster and CRC Freeze off will be your best friends if you decide to take this job up. I know PBlaster will penetrate hopefully to the threads and work its magic. Then hit it with the torch then with CRC Freeze off to shrink it. The expanding and contracting will break the rusts' hold hopefully. Tight fitting 6 point sockets only, 12 points might chew the rusted spots round.

Im not sure if you should try to turn on the bolt while heated because it might weaken them, Im not %100 and lets wait for more info/tips from others.

Looks like the cover has a grease film. Which is sorta a good thing made the rust from going any further.

Good point try to clean the area up and start it up and pin point the source of the leak weather it be gasket or a cracked cover.

I'm suprised the bolts are rusted, my 87 90HP has SS bolts. I have had a slow drip in the lower right side of mine for a year now and it hasnt caused any problems. I start the motor on muffs before I go out, and look at it to see if its any worse. So far, so good. There is a cover, and a plate between the block. It does look like you have been getting alot of moisture under the cowl, as other things look to be rusted too.
