I woke up this morning and couldn't take it any longer. I hadn't been fishing on my boat yet this year and it really felt like it was killing me. The past few weekends were nice, but the whole work before play thing screwed up my plans to get out on the water.

I woke up this morning and was determined to get out on the water - it was warm, sunny, except the wind was really kicking up.

I checked the NOAA report and sure enough - Small Craft Advisory. Ugh..I've never been out during a Small Craft Advisory (my craft is REALLY small at 12 feet) but the river I was headed to is small and how bad could it really be? I called the marina and chatted with the guy who answered for a few minutes..they were renting boats and he said it was just breezy there - I shouldn't have any problems. By the way, in the past, JB has mentioned that he used to fish at Fountainhead Park, where I was.

So, I loaded up my gear and headed out. I put the boat in the water for the first time this year....man it felt good. The old Evinrude started on the thrid pull. Whew! It was windy and a little choppy, but I knew my boat, named The Fearless Guppy would take me to the bass and back with no problems. As I started heading up the river, the wind just got worse and worse and so did the chop. I was bouncing all over the place and getting blown every which way but the way I wanted to go.

After about 10 minutes of getting nowhere fast, decided to turn around and call it a day. I fished from the shore - brought home nothing but it doesn't matter because I got out on the boat, and did some fishing.

I've got the boating and fishing bug bad. I guess it's because it's my time and it gives me something to think about all week long while sitting in my cubicle pounding away at a computer. It just proves that old bumper sticker is right - The worst day of fishing is better than the best day of working. I'm glad I can share that with all my Iboats buds too.
