Re: Small Engine Question

Henry there is a breather disk located on the side of the block. It should have a pipe (rubber) running up to the carb. should have one maby two screws in it. take it off and clean it with aerosol type of cleaner do not insert any thing into it for you will damage the disk which is very sensitive. this breather controls the vacuum build up in the crank case when the piston moves. when it stops up. it forces oil into the carb. you can order a new one but i just cleaned mine and put it back on and so far no more pr-obs. so far. I do have and old shop manual from briggs that helped me with mine. if you need more just sing out will do my best to help

Re: Small Engine Question

Hey yall, dig this......Called Generac back and got a young lady in the service and support area. After explaining my plight to her she took my phone number and said she'd call me back. Low and behold, she called back in about 20 minutes and wanted a fax number. She faxed me a service bulletin that described exactly what my system is doing and it also gave step by step instructions of what it takes to fix it. She called back a few minutes later to ask if I'd gotten the fax and if it was ledgible. I told her it was and also asked her why she did what she did when no one else at Generac would. Yall ain't gonna believe what she told me.

She said and I quote, "Being from Wisconsin I don't get to hear southern accents very often and I love them and I think they are to die for." I thanked her and told her that she had my number and anytime she wanted to hear a southern accent to just give me a call. Ain't that a hoot ?!?!?!?

OH and BTW....the generator is fixed and thanks to all that replied.

Re: Small Engine Question

I had a B&S "Vangaurd" V-twin that I allmost lost twice, and on round three, did loose.
My old Craftstman rider finlly went to lawnmower heaven with a broken rod. Cause: Lubrication failure, due to fuel contamination.
I caught the problem years ago at before-start oil check. As it turned out, the gas tank was gravity-feeding the carb with a steady supply of fuel, but when the float needle in the carb stuck open, it emptied the gas tank into cylinders, and eventually, into the crankcase.

My solution:
repair carb (natch), and install a manual fuel cut-of valve. Also , removed electrical cut off solenoid (how it shut off the engine), and replaced with a spark grounding relay.
It werked flawlessly, but I never shut off the
fuel, because I "fixed the problem"...Until the float stuck again for the third and final time..Sniff...Goodbye old girl. :(

But anyhoo, check the compression to be assured the rings are not sharing sides with the fluids, and check the oil for signs of fuel contamination.
Check the fuel shut-off soleniod too, as it will allow a constant supply of gas,as long as gas in in the tank when it sticks-open.

Re: Small Engine Question

Henry if you don't mind post how they told you to handle the problem it might help someone. Glad you got a postive response from them.

Re: Small Engine Question

Their fix for my problem was was too remove the oil makeup system and plug the hole where the line goes into the block. The bulletin said that after benchmark tests of the same generator after running 200 hours under normal load condition, loss of oil was minimal. Not even quarter of a quart. The engine is also protected by a low oil shut off. I figure since the engine is running on natrual gas it should be even better.

I change the oil every 6 months regardless and its never even dirty, always looks fresh and brand new. Even the plugs look new when you change them.
