Small Fiberglass Patch

I have a garden tractor hood shroud made of fiberglass, about 3 inches wide, that has cracked clear through from the weight of the hood.

The fiberglass is chopped, not matte.

Other than getting the resin, hardener and glass, etc. is there and easier way to patch this?

Also, after patching, would smoothing with bondo and sanding be the way to go, or is there a better method to finish?

Thanks

Thanks

Re: Small Fiberglass Patch

There are some great new fiberglass repair products out now but you have to get them at a local autobody supply store. One that I have used with great success is a product called long and strong or Tiger Hair, (Not so new), It mixes like bodo and is tougher than nails. Easier than the whole matt and resin mess and at nearly as strong. I wouldn`t use it on a boat hull. Just make sure you grind the crack out about an inch or so on both sides and use a generous amount on the underside. It`s prone to having some pin holes so you will have to finish with a light coat of bondo.
