Small grinding slip up....

Hi,

So i've begun restoring an old 1976 aluminium quintrex, and decided to cut the middle bench seat out of it so I can lay a flat piece of marine ply on the ground etc.

I'll cut to the chase - while grinding off the weld holding the seat on the grinder grabbed and I sorta put a cut in the side of the boat.

I'm going to get a Tig welder and get a mate who is a welder to fix the slit for me, just wondering if this spot once the boat has been sandblasted & repainted etc. will be visible or should be unnoticable?

Hmmmmmmm I suspect we need to suspend your grinding privileges for some time

Yes get it welded...... yes the spot will be noticed from at least one side and on the exterior it depends on how neatly it is welded. Once you repaint YOU will always notice because YOU did the damage.......

Do not let it bother you. ......... thinking about it..... you should finish all your grinding before you go see the man with the welder.......... just in case it happens again

Ayuh,... That hull is going to be Flimsy without the support of the center seat ya know....
