Hi everyone,
I bought my first boat this year (older 14' Lund) and currently have a 1994 5hp Mercury on it. It runs good and doesn't have any issues that I am aware of. This works fine on the smaller lakes I use it on. I may have the opportunity to trade the 5hp for a 1981 9.9 Evinrude that is also in good shape. I like the idea of more hp and think I will do this if the other owner is willing.

Is there anything I should be concerned about with making this swap? The other owner is looking for a lighter motor due to an injury.

Thanks for your help.

sounds like a fair trade to me if both motors run well and are in similar condition. At that point, age isn't really an issue.

You'll like having the extra power.

How much would he sell the 9 for? I'd be inclined to keep mine and buy his. Can't have too many.

Thanks for the reply. We ended up meeting today and made the trade. Hopefully the Evinrude 9.9 will be a good motor for me.
