Re: small runabout
The internet is full of sites offering free or low cost plans. 8' Runabout is pretty small. 1 seater? 9.9hp or less? Possibly a trolling motor only....
Plywood, stitch & glue....
It's probably not what you're looking for, but there's a small knock-down plywood boat (kind of a canoe/kayak hybrid) in my signature line below....
Glen-L, 1950's-60's Popular Mechanics, and many other options.... Use google....
Unfortunately, currently there is not a home-built or wooden boat build section @iboats, that will hopefully change soon.
I am unaware of any 8-10' small runabout builds @iboats either, but I'd surely follow along if you can find a plan & start a build. Simple carpentry skills & a small # of tools can yield pretty good results. It is not to early to start planning how you'll seal & waterproof the hull. Some plans may require sealing prior to construction or cover up during the build.
Good luck w/ your search, and you can PM me anytime. I have plans that I haven't built or even studied, but they were easy to find on the internet, and are often free or cost very little.
BTW, the designer of the boat I built, Ken Simpson, has a website w/ free plans to shorten the shaft on a trolling motor so it 'fits' a short transom wooden boat & doesn't have the steering handle above your head or have the electric powerhead 16" below the keel.....
