Re: smart tab comparison

I've never heard of them and can't find them for sale anywhere; odd that their site has no dealer links. It looks like they've been around since the 90s, maybe a UK product? Did you find anyplace actually selling them?

I did find this link to what looks like an offer to sell their patent along with a link to a little demonstration video.

Re: smart tab comparison

Rocket flaps are not the same as Smart Tabs in more than one way. Their cylander is spring loaded to push the plate down, however just enough to allow it to suck in water (fill up). Whe the boat accelerates the Trim Tab push against the cylander filled with water and resist compressing. The relief valve slowly allows the water to escape and the tab retract. Clever!

Once retracted they do nothing. Therefore no ride controll like Smart Tabs, and no help with porpoising.

When the boat slows down the cylanders fill with water again.

The real draw back is that the sea water, crustations, etc. can and do enter the cylander and can and do disrupt the valve function.

In short the only function they perform is to assist the boat to plane, and they can not be tuned to the individual boat.
