Have Neptune 200 CC w/115 rude, 17" SS prop. Dry is 2100#, running is approx 3200# ( 40 gal gas,
2-230# people, 4 batts.( 2 at Bow with 74# Rip Tide troll mtr.)+ 115 rude, T-Top, in calm, fresh H2O. Smart tabs ST1290-60, 25 deg., mid. point pressure, hole shot abt. 6 sec to plane vs 15 - 18 sec w/o tabs. GPS 32.5 - 33 MPH with tabs vs 29 MPH w/o tabs. Stability is unbelievable- stable as concrete. Increased pressure to 3/4 point slowed slightly bow seemed to plow. Immediate throttle to idle, boat seems to stop on a dime - great brakeing power from the tabs. Wasn't able to test at 1/4 pressure but feel somewhere between 1/2 and 1/4 will be optimum and still remain stable. Am to repower with 200 or 225 hp in near future - expect even better results then. Thanks a million John for your assistance and knowledge when I ordered. Great product- HIGHLY RECCOMEND Smart Tabs. Once again Thanks John

Jim

Re: Smart Tab results

Jim,

Your welcome! Glad you have come up with the good results.
Given that you have picked up about 4MPH I would suggest that your fairly close to max. from the tabs.
Reducing the pressure a little may give you a bit more, but remember the improved handling is a result of the actuator pressure (resistance) keeping the boat from side to side and bow to stern movement. That is what gets rid of the porpoising, makes the boat turn flatter, track better, and if fast enough eliminate chine walk. It's all about balance!

It always amazes me that this simple product gives so much better low end performance, mid range handling, and more top end speed.

What is your max RPMs now? Should be up about 100 to 200.

Re: Smart Tab results

John: Am lugging the motor slightly 5150 - 5200 at wot. Tried a Turning Point 15" alum. but the increase in blade size dropped RPM. What it took to run 29mph at 5100 can now do at 4600 to 4700. Seems like low speed plane is abt 14 - 16 mph gps. Don't have figures for before tabs. Based on these results overall; repower results should be something to see.

Jim

Re: Smart Tab results

You could drop the pitch one notch, and pick up the RPMs and possible a bit more top end, not to mention even more low end. I like the turnig point alluminium props.

Best Regards

John

Re: Smart Tab results

John: Also have a '86 140hp rude - same gear case - on another boat.
Two separate SS props both 17" cupped. On 115: 1-turns 51/5200, other prop turns 47/4800 ( both affect 140 in the same ratio ). 15" Turn. Pt. cupped turns 47/4800 also have 19" Turn. Pt. but even the 140 get loaded down by it - no need to try on 115. Hate to invest in a 13" or 15" SS this close to repower. Thanks again.

Jim

Jim;

Call Turning Point directly and ask for Adam. Tell him what you are getting and see what he has to say. They are good people!

John

Old Jarhead,

Cost: ~ $100-200, depending on what boat it is for.

Go to http://www.google.com
and type in "Smart Tabs"

Or go to manufacturer website:
http://www.nauticusinc.com
and Dealer/Retailer. There is also a Pricelist there.

/Bo
