Re: Smart Tabs for Me?

Mattttt25;

Given the weight of the boat and the HP, the ST1290-80 should be OK. Once you have installed them via the instructions, run the boat. If the boat does not run a few MPH faster than before, reduce the pressure by moving the actuator closer to the plate. This adjsutment is only done at the Trim Plate Bracket. Don't make adjustments to the transom bracket (Top). The Trim Plate Bracket adjustment will not change the starting angle (25 degrees down) it only changes the leverage point(lift pressure). If the boat runs slower then you have too much lift pressure.

If the 80 Lb. actuators are too much, we will exchange them at no charge if done within the first 30 days of use. The physical size of the 60 Lb. actuators is identical and the R&R should only take a few minutes, unless you and your buddies are working together and then it could take two six packs and most of Sat. PM.

Follow the instruction in the box.

Re: Smart Tabs for Me?

john, got my tabs. very excited. i skimmed the manual and have a few questions (forgive me if it's clearly stated and i missed it). any suggestions on anodes? i saw the picture, but it didn't see much direction. if i need to attach anodes through the tab, won't the attachment mess up the performance of the tab (maybe more drag)? i swear i have never seen anodes on bigger boats' tabs. also, where exactly is the best place to mount the tabs? i know how to position them in relationship to the bottom of the boat, but how about the horizontal position? how far from the sides of the hull, or how far from the engine? did i miss all this in the manual??? :(

Re: Smart Tabs for Me?

Mattttt25;

If you trailer the boat, purchase one set of anodes (they come in pairs - one for the bottom of the plate and one for the top) and an extra nut and bolt. Split the set and put one half on the top of each plate near the middle. This way you will be able to easily monitor the wear. If the boat stays in the water, use one set on each plat. Drag is not an issue.

As for the mounting location, the ideal spot is as far out to either side as possible (just inside the chine - about 3" to 4" in) so that you get the maximum control port to starboard.

If the boat does not run faster at the top end reduce the pressure and or call me. I think you purchased the ST1290-80 which could be a bit much for your boat. No worry as we can exchange the actuators if needed.

John

Re: Smart Tabs for Me?

mattttt25: The anodes I put on my Smart Tabs were rudder anodes - about 1 3/4" in diameter and mounted them like John said. No interference at all. Think I got them from Boaters World.

:)
