ALL-
I have searched the forum and see that there have been some folks who installed them on a Rinker like mine. I see very mixed results...they are installed much closer to the engine than some boats because of the transom layout. What do you think..is it worth it to install, or just live with it. I hate the bow high situation during acceleration and pulling the power off.....but can it be fixed?

Is this your style transom:

If so that is definitely a pretty tough install. I would check with Nauticus. I am going to take this opportunity to add what I always do about Smart Tabs. I am a trim tab lover. I do not believe they are only needed to correct a problem, I believe they should be standard on all V-hulls. With that said, I personally prefer helm adjustable tabs like Bennett's especially if budget is not a huge concern and you like to finely tune and adjust things. If you are a point and shoot type of guy, then Smart Tabs are great, and they are a much easier install.

Edit: Where are my manners? Doh! Welcome aboard!!!! :)

Thanks for the welcome...and that is identical to my transome...I see a number of folks put them outboard of the motor not far it. My small brain says this would not have a profound effect on handling....as you know, my Rinker suffers from the usual issues with planning and coming off speed. I assume a hydralic tab would be installed well outboard in the notch of the hull?

Mounting as far outboard as possible is the goal, but there are many as you have noted that are further in and I guarantee they still have a "profound effect" . . . Point is that they will still work well for lower planing speeds, less low speed wander and way less bow rise. This is true for Hydraulic or Smart Tabs.

QC... a lot of the (single engine) performance boaters move there tabs inward. They do it because at high speeds the tabs mounted on the outer edges don't contact the water as much, moving them in fixes the problem.

I'm 100% with ya on the hydraulic tabs... its nice to be able to adjust the tabs yourself and for what conditions your boating it. ;)

I put them on my 192. I love them!! I am running an OEM aluminum 21p prop.

They work as advertized. I mounted them inboard, I called Nauticus and spoke with John and that was his recomendation. the 60lb actuators.
They do really well. Porpoising is gone, excessive bow rise is gone. Much tighter at higher speeds, time to plane greatly lessened, low speed wander almost non existant..
There are a couple drawbacks... biggest is that with the tabs having to be mounted so far inboard it makes the boat more suseptable to listing because of improper weight distribution. The port side of these boats is the heavy side as I am sure you have noticed. The way I combat this is by putting more pressure on the port side than the starboard. That helps and once you plane out everything levels out with a little bit of trim. I have tried moving stuff around but it seems this is just something I have to deal with and it is not that bad once you get used to it, it is easy to correct. Also sometimes on really tight turns you can have some blowout, but I am pretty sure that a diffferent prop would fix that.

All in all I really like them, especially for this type boat I think the financial investment for helm adjudjustable tabs is kinda overkill. At least it is for my type of boating. The pros certaily outweigh the cons in my opinion but that is just me. LEt me know if I can get you more info
Good luck

Would you happen to have a picture of your install? I have a 182 and just ordered me a set primarily to stop the porpiosing and smoothen out the ride on rougher water.

Re: Smart Tabs---Rinker 192 Captiva

Guys;

The list is caused by too much stern lift. This pushes the bow down so that the sharpest part of the "V" style hull is in the water. It causes a teeter totter effect. Prop torque tend to roll the boat to the left (port). Reduce the actuator pressure (example: move the actuators from hole 3 to hole 2 or 1).

It is true that the list would be easier to control if the tabs were farther apart but the list is not from the tabs being inboard, but rather that they are set to strong.

Here is a pic of mine on my 182 which has a similar hull style as the 192. They work great, and I am completely happy...
