I spoke to nautiJohn on the phone today but didn't really have a chance to get down into the conversation I wanted to with him concerning their products. I know he is a member of this forum so I figured I post some of the questions I had so that he could answer them when he had the time and then I could read them when I had enough time to sit down and concentrate. I also figured that some of the other people that have purchased the smart tabs or mobster tabs would also read this post and possibly give me other answers based on your experiences. First, what is the differences between the Mobster Tabs and the Smart Tabs? John suggested the Mobster Tabs for my boat, namely the model number MT1080-60. I asked him why when I spoke to him, but there was too much background noise around me and I had a hard time hearing his answer. Another question I have is whether I need the angled mount series or the traditional mount ones. If I go by the model number that john gave me, I would have to go with the traditional mount model. The concern I have is my boat is a Mod-V hull boat which has a slight "v" angle or deadrise. For this reason, do I need the angled mount version? I would appreciated any info you all can give me on this. Thanks.

Re: smart tabs vs. mobster tabs

Obviously you have a boat capable of some speed...
I have mobster tabs on my 18ft Starcraft with a 200+ Rude due to the speeds I attain.
as for the angle, I'm not sure what you are getting at but the tabs mount parrallel to the bottom, regardless of shape, and the actuator mount is placed at a 90 deg angle to the tab, and the location is found by using the template supplied.
MT1080-60 is what I'm running...the -60 is the lbs of actuator resistance.
They have been a great addition to my set-up, and very much needed for my non-pad type hull at 55MPH + for stability.
Very little bow-rise if any on hole-shot.
Great piece of equipment.

To get this right, here's a link to your boat (I think): http://www.xpressboats.com/h56.html

I am sure NautiJohn will comment on the differences between Mobster Tabs and Smart Tabs, and will repeat his recommendation of a particular type of tab for your specific type of boat.

Judging from the picture taken from straight above, your boat seems to have a fairly straight transom, which would then indicate that you need the ordinary straight tabs, not the angled ones - just like NautiJohn recommended.

Yes, your boat has a V-shaped bottom, but that has nothing to do with it. As Walleyehed says, you'd mount the tabs in parallell with the bottom edge of the transom in any case. If you look at the nauticusinc.com website, you'll see some examples of installations.

Some transoms are angled on each side, and would thus need the tabs to be set at an angle. Here's an example (this boat belongs to LubeDude on this forum, I took the liberty of posting his picture that he used in another thread):

Anyway, best of luck with this. I am sure it will work out well.
