Smartcraft 1000 installation

Hi, I've recently purchased a boat with a 2007 115hp Optimax and it came with the old analog gauge (speed, tach, trim and fuel). I want to replace these with the smartcraft gauges. Would it be as simple as to remove the old connections from the analogue gauges and connecting the smartcraft ones or would I need other connectors/harness and cables?

Many thanks for your time
Zack

Smartcraft 1000 questions/advice required

Hi, firstly, let me thank all the guys on this forum that has helped me figure out and learn a sh!tload of stuff on the smartcraft install, I really wanted the SC1000 and when I started, I had no idea on what needed to be done. Now I am ready to jump in, with a bit of an idea, where I, at least know how to ask the right questions. Well here goes.

I am just about ready to commit to installing SC1000 tach and speedo gauges. I have been told from the dealer that my engine (2007/08 Optimax 115hp) is compatiable with the SC1000 and it should simply be a matter of plugging it in. I just have some questions I hope someone can confirm and advice on some other stuff also.

Pic1 (pic1-controlconnector.jpg). This is the cable that comes out of the shift control, and I am told this would connect to the junction box of the SC1000. Since I have this harness/connector at the helm, I shouldn't need to run a smartcraft harness to the engine, correct?

Currently the purple connector is connected to an analog gauge harness (Pic 2 pic2-analogHarnessConnector.jpg) which hooks up to speed, tach, fuel and trim gauges. Now, there are 5 wires hanging out of the shift control (pic1) light green, white, blue(white stripe), yellow(black stripe) and red. What are these wires for? Do I need them for full SC1000 functionality?

Pic 3 (pic3-terminatorSCConnector.jpg), from what I've read, the SC connector at the engine is terminated at the engine with a yellow terminator cap, is this what this picture is showing? So I don't need to hook up anything down this end?

Pic 4 (pic4-trimSenderCable.jpg), also from what I've read and confirmed by testing it, the analog trim sender (brown/white) cable is currently connected. I'll need to replace the sender with a digital trim sender (part #891777A01), and it'll connect to the light blue, yellow, black/organge wires correct? In pic4, there is also 3 cables attached to a connector (purple, white, orange/black) which isn't connected to anything, anyone know what this is for?

Now for speed, I have an old chartplotter (humminbird matrix 97 combo) that has an external GPS receiver, (this may be a silly question, and some of you might laugh =)) but without going down the route of the whole NMEA gateway, is there anyway I can hook up the smartcraft to the external GPS receiver? If this is not possible, what are my alternatives? I think there is a current pitot sender which I assume is only compatiable with the analog gauge, would I need to replace this with a digital/SC one?

Last question, the paddle wheel? I've been given some mixed information on this, what exactly is the paddle wheel used for? Is it so I can use the troll functionality on the SC1000?

Sorry for all the questions. I am sure I will have more =).
Cheer
Zack
